What is beauty defined by?
The quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit.
In society today, we like to live fast and get instant rewards. Society needs to slow down and take in the beauty that’s all around us. We should find beauty in the simple things.
The shining sun or the sound of rain.
The smell of the earth and a freshly brewed pot of coffee or tea, or maybe a crisp glass of water.
It could be your favorite meal or snack.
Seeing a friend or loved one in the distance and realizing their smile is for you.
A newly bloomed flower, or maybe it’s your new favorite game or show premiering.
Simply sitting in silence within the chaos of life. (This is a hard one)
Reading your favorite book for the tenth time or picking up a new one.
Taking a walk, riding your bike or a road trip that gives familiar or unfamiliar sights and smells.
Having a conversation with your favorite person or showing affection to a four-legged friend.
I could go on with this, but I think you get the point.
Beauty is all around us, if we would only pay attention.
What are the three qualities of beauty?
The thirteenth-century philosopher, Thomas Aquinas, said:
“Beauty requires three qualities: integrity, harmony and radiance.”
Beauty is, as they say, “In the eye of the beholder.”
I say, “Beauty radiates from the inside and is projected out.”
You can be “physically beautiful, but if your insides are ugly… then what are you projecting into the world?”
True beauty is understanding oneself and trying to understand others.
Having compassion, love, and empathy for the Earth and all living things. (Yep, that’s you, and everything outside of your window.)
If this sounds a lot like LOVE, you are right. BEAUTY and LOVE mirror each other.
“It arouses, triggers, and stimulates reactions in the soul and mind of the human being that provide pleasure.”
Always choose love.
